Through exceptional design management and the use Modern Methods of Construction, MTX delivered a multi-award-winning new home for East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
The bespoke state-of-the-art, 2-storey Centre, designed with both patients and parents in mind, delivers 1080m2 of new accommodation including an operating theatre, catheter lab, anesthetic room, recovery suites, outpatients and diagnostics, all necessary ancillary, including parent rooms, and a dedicated plant room.
Through close collaboration with the Trust and by using ingenious design techniques, MTX were able to take this RIBA Stage 3 traditional concrete frame building and redesign it as a steel frame ‘hybrid’ volumetric structure. Bringing it under budget via value engineering design and standardized elements. The project achieved a BREEAM score of ‘Very Good’ and an air tightness of 5.2; 1.8m3, well under the industry average of 7.
